The session this evening at the art studio (The San Diego Art Loft) was a fun one! We drew from 2-minute torso poses and one blind contour pose. We also did 2, 20-minute sessions of the same pose. After the session, I went back into the full figure pose to fill in the darks and the shadow behind the model.
The torso sketches felt very free for me. I’m liking the way of laying down oval shapes of the torso and other areas of the body. I can correct it as I go, it doesn’t have to be perfect, and focusing on the shaping the ribcage is very helpful.
On the right, the blind contour was just that, drawing without looking at the paper using contour lines (in a stylized fashion that I seem to be developing.) Although, I will admit, I ended up looking at the paper to correct my proportions. Vine charcoal worked well on newsprint.
I felt a lot of freedom in these drawings, it was awesome!
